# FF - Turning 18

The facial expressions in the dinner scene are directly lifted from the actual photo I took of the boys and their dad at the actual dinner. The comic depicts it as a stereotypical "fancy restaurant", but it was in fact a Cracker Barrel, which Hadrian chose on purpose both to annoy his father and because he genuinely does love simple, country style food!

He did legit drag his mattress down from the second floor to the basement and into my library, where he slept on the floor, ate air fryer breakfasts with me, and wore only his work scrubs or basic t shirts and sweatpants to school for the rest of his senior year. The elaborate wardrobe and vast sneaker collection stayed upstairs with everything else he no longer needed or wanted. (Our local Goodwill stores found themselves overflowing with donations when we moved to the abandoned houses. I think we went through a whole roll of trash bags!)

And he knew absolutely nothing about Saint Francis of Assisi until our rolling Viking Ship "raided the monastery" on Divine Mercy Sunday 2026 - but all we "stole" was grace, which is free anyway. And a little tote bag with a little book that changed our lives permanently and for the better, but that was free too, courtesy of a very kind and helpful Pilgrimage Department employee.
