Yes, that's kind of a pun. The whole title and indeed the whole series is based around wordplay, which I made liberal use of in the recipe newsletter I ran from March 2024 to April 2025, which I will be excerpting as the text of the comic posts.

The original newsletters will not be republished in their complete original form for several very good reasons:

- The newsletters were published on a weekly basis (54 issues, so just over a year), but the comics cover one month of timespan apiece. The comics will be accompanied by newsletter excerpts from the correct time period.
- The newsletters were published via email on a private basis between friends (mostly the young Mormon missionaries who visited my house for dinner on a regular basis, but also a few friends from the local autism community), so they used real names and details of real people which, out of respect for their privacy and the religious schism which now divides most of us (I am only still friends with ONE of the 40 or so subscribers that it had by the end!), I will be redacting any of those references, changing identifying details as necessary, and have changed appearances and details in the comics so they contain just randomly generated "missionaries" rather than anyone recognizable as an individual. (The same goes for individuals depicted in the main WOSF storyline.)
- Since the newsletter was produced for an almost entirely Mormon audience (there is an exact match between the only non Mormon subscriber and my only remaining friend from that era!), since that was the only church I was allowed to belong to at the time, the scripture study material contains a lot of references to the Book of Mormon and other Mormon scriptures and writings, as well as teaching Mormon theological concepts that I do not want to be teaching anymore, so that material must be redacted as necessary. When the content is just basic Christian theology and Bible verse references, it will be left in, since a lot of it was quite good! There were even sprinklings of my deeply buried Catholicism here and there, starting as early as Issue 2! Obviously those references will be left in and remarked on!

Why the title "Underground SSSaints"?

The original newsletter was called SSS (Snacks, Stories, and Scriptures - subscribers considered themselves a private club known as "Hissers"), and it was published "underground" in the sense of "in semi secret, out of reach of my abuser", and also the private library room of our semi palatial home at the time, which I eventually turned into a full time apartment for myself and later Hadrian too, was partially underground for real, at walkout basement level. Mormons refer to themselves as Latter Day Saints, and I also had actual canonized Saints of the Catholic Church on my mind and in my prayers as I wrote my story of faith, food, fellowship, and ultimately freedom.
