US - His Word Is A Lamp (Overview)
My children and I (and technically their father as well), were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) from November 2023 to... That depends on the individual. We are definitely all "out" at this point, although only Hadrian and I are Catholics.
My ex husband stopped attending services sometime in summer or fall 2025 and has evidently not been pursued for refellowship. He now considers himself to be a Messianic Jew and attends a non denominational Protestant congregation. He has told me he has no interest in rejoining the Mormons. (We remain in contact on a limited basis for concerns related to our shared children. Josh retained a relationship with him after the divorce; Hadrian did not, although as we shall see in WOSF there has been some attempt to at least be cordial in the wake of tragedy. My depiction of him in the comics is charitable but honest. When I am quoting him, I am quoting him, and his physical appearance is accurately depicted along with the rest of us. I have chosen not to graphically depict scenes of physical or extreme verbal abuse, but it did go on constantly throughout our entire marriage beginning during my first pregnancy, and has left physical and emotional scars on me, and psychological damage to the children. We all agree his violent example is what led Josh to commit the horrific act of violence against his own brother in September 2025 that rendered him quadriplegic.)
My older son, Josh, has not been visited, called, or otherwise treated like a member since his incarceration began in September 2025. He is currently residing in a secure mental health facility, where he is now allowed to have visitors and I am attempting to arrange for a Catholic priest to visit him in hopes that he can be baptized. (Neither he or his father have ever received any baptism except from the Mormons.)
I was informally and manipulatively excommunicated by my local congregation leader in December 2025, and formally excommunicated for disobedience to him a few months later. He was demanding that I attend private meetings with him at a time and place of his choosing, leaving my son unguarded, and his words and actions prior to and during that were of an inappropriate and unwholesome nature and led me to reasonably believe that he would assault me or at least try to coerce me into immoral behavior if I were to comply. The formal excommunication came about when I contacted his superior to report his actions. Apparently you just don't do that in that church - one practical reason, besides my now having a true testimony of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, that I am a Catholic is because this church has safeguards and procedures in place so if I were to have the same issue with clergy here, it would be handled safely and appropriately, and I would certainly not be excommunicated and publicly humiliated and shunned for reporting actual or suspected abuse.
Hadrian was never formally excommunicated to my knowledge but he chose to stand with me, and as we will see in the main WOSF storyline was welcomed into full membership of the Catholic Church under emergency medical circumstances on May 13, 2026, the feast day of Our Lady Of Fatima! Which is why his Instagram is @loveourladyoffatima , which we need to update soon! This project has taken over our lives...
