Our 4Patriots solar generator inexplicably does not charge. Even on AC. Another thousand or so down the drain, but that's just par for the course of this journey into holy poverty and true happiness...

I was honestly shocked when telling someone about this night of the journey and getting the "it must have been an unimaginable hardship" reaction - I hadn't even mentioned the power failure.

We love camping. (See not yet published prequel series "Camping In Portents", once it's published!). And Hadrian would still love it if it wasn't a health and safety issue! As it stood, I ran the van engine off and on as a generator (we have an inverter for the dash cigarette lighter that runs his mattress while we drive), watching the gas level to ensure we could make it to the next gas station, and I also woke up every few hours to turn him. He still rates it as one of the best nights of the trip, and so do I. The peace and beauty and closeness we felt to God were worth it.
