WOSF Episode 61
Quite a lot of my extensive personal notes include the phrase "due to poor catechesis"...
For instance, one reason I was willing to join the Mormons was that they allow, and even encourage, divorce, especially in cases where there is an obvious mismatch (and in my case, I hadn't even voluntarily married but had been coerced and threatened into it!). I was wrongly taught that the Catholic Church considered my marriage to my sons' abusive father to be valid and unbreakable since we were married in a religious ceremony. I have since learned that was incorrect and I can indeed receive an annulment quite easily - provided we can get ourselves into a supportive parish/diocese! We have really never been welcomed by the parish we registered with here - yet another thing I was misled about when we first moved, just like the "good guy" setting me up with this nice rental where the landlord was supposed to charitably lower the rent (instead, he wants to raise it!), and to allow us to find a roommate or rent rooms to Shrine pilgrims, both of which requests have been denied. Our parish has not been kind or welcoming and there has been zero donations or other forms of assistance, despite my few contacts telling me they would share and donate. It is obvious that God wants us somewhere else for this next season...but without funding, we can't even realistically begin to look. Except for taking a long, hard look at just how livable full time that van really is with a miniscule starter budget and winter coming on...
